Scientific support unit

Who are we ?

The scientific support unit of the laboratory consists of a CNRS engineer and two UPPA engineers, specialised in the processing, analysis and visualisation of spatial data, bodies of text, quantitative and qualitative data, and also in scientific IT development.

Which services do we offer ?

We provide a cross-disciplinary technical and methodological support to the laboratory's researchers, post-doctoral fellows and PhD students.

We help research teams to analyse methodological aspects of their studies and to implement protocols. Depending on the data they have already collected or they intend to collect and on the defined objectives, we direct them towards the methods and tools that seem to be the most relevant, taking into account their advantages and disadvantages.

Our team can help with the collection of data, whether it is already available (existing databases, data coming from observatories, for example) or to be created (extraction of data from the Internet - opinions, comments from discussion forums). We provide advice on the implementation of surveys, focus groups, moderation guides, etc., and on the processing and analysis of data, with cartographic and/or graphic representations if relevant.

This implies thinking about how the tools can fit together and setting up procedures to support collaborative or group work within a team, depending on what is needed.

We set up training sessions on various software and tools (textual analysis, QGIS, OpenStreetMap, Gephi...).

Calendrier des formations et inscriptions

We support the implementation of a Data Management Plan (DMP) to define clearly how the data produced during and at the end of a research project will be collected, documented, analysed, disseminated and archived, as well as the choices related to the metadata, database formats, access methods and security, archiving times and the costs associated with data management. We also ensure compliance with regulations, in particular the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), in our research data collection systems, and encourage an open science approach.
